LIGHTNING STRIKES, SORT OF ALL THE TIME

Oxford Collapse were great last night at Rothko. That Ron Johnson sound is back! Saw the actual Robert Lloyd fronting the portable version of the Nightingales. Lloyd's voice was a little road-damaged, so we didn't get the full onslaught. A thrill to hear "Urban Ospreys" in any version at all, such a killer lyric.

Saw about five minutes of The Go! Team. "Is the power on in the back? Is the power on in the front? Can you say [in Snap voice] 'I got the power!'?"

I hadn't listened to the Dinosaur Jr. records since 1987, when I was in a band, living in a band house with someone whose taste was literally visible: every time he listened to a record, he left big thumbprints on it. I have hard evidence that he liked Dinosaur Jr. a lot.

Except for "Little Fury Things" and their proximity to Sebadoh, I didn't find a single thing to like about Dinoasur Jr. in 2005. I am having a hard time remembering if I ever liked anything other than "Little Fury Things." Wake me up for the Slovenly reissues.
