IN MY SHIRT SHIRT

122407sfbluebldg.jpg

[Discussion of Carlos Slim, who is not slim. Topic shifts to displays of wealth.]

“How do people know he’s so rich? Does he have a plane?”

“Well, I don’t know. He probably has a nice car and a plane but I think he assumes people know who he is, so he probably plays it cool.”

“What would playing it hot be?”

EVERYDAY LIFE

122807lichen.jpg

“I often wish I was a dog.”

“Why?”

“Then I wouldn’t have to wear a ridiculous costume.”

“How often do you wear a costume?”

“Oh, approximately 365 days a year.”

WOAH

82607amdamgrafdetail.jpg

My home iTunes, for perhaps logistically obvious reasons, has a very different taste set than my work iTunes. (No, no, no, not another goddamn round of _______.) So the albums I leaned on at home aren't really on my list, which I update mostly from the office. So, some considerable re-ranking, and then we say "Hello, San Francisco" tonight.

And hello to you. Thanks to all who loved, hated, watched, fell asleep, or printed out a photo of yogurt on a little Japanese sticker and then stuck it to a picture of yogurt. (And then sent it to me.) I am right here.

“Do you have a favorite sentence in a book? One where the words are just right for you?”

“I probably do but I don’t know what it is. Do you have one?’

“Yes.”

“What is it?”

“‘I’m glad Uncle Feather was still on strike. A trio would have been too much for me to handle tonight.’”

WHAT I LEARNED WATCHING TELEVISION TONIGHT

1607in.jpg

About three months ago, Hollywood’s top actresses got all rowdy with the perfumeries, and now they all have their own individual perfume fragrance smell commercials. NOW. AT THE SAME CONFUSING TIME.

MC Hammer thinks that TLC are possibly the greatest female group of all time.

Secret’s “wetness protection” tagline is__________.

A song called “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was very big in the nineties.

Tom Selleck is in a TV show where he does something spooky and gambly.

There is a lady named New York. Several fellows are vying for the chance to sire her about. She does not like horses and finds much of life to be a trial. Why these young men want to be her shabba ranks lover lover is not apparent, unless she has hidden a microchip full of digital cash in one of her teeth.

FOR THE TWO PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THIS

One of several obvious effects: the words come to the front when the rhythm section is reduced by seventy percent and more than one person sings.

MY PILLOW/MY BAD

121807mjbpillow.jpg

Unless her Maryness actually showed up—what, I’m going to wait until 2 A.M. to get a shot at not seeing someone across a crowded penthouse suite?—this was the coolest thing about the the “Growing Pains” release party. That, and a dude driving a Segway indoors. No lie. (If it is a medical thing, no disrespect. If not—maybe that’s better.)

Oops! I messed up!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S LED ZEPPELIN

12100702.jpg

But what was that feedback during "Good Times, Bad Times"? "Ramble On" sounds better. They sound an awful lot like Led Zeppelin. Jason too much on top of the beat, though. Still no talking. Oh snap! "Black Dog"! They're playing an ALL Zeppelin set! One day, Johnny Depp will play Page. Ah ah ah ah. What is with the feedback? This should be watertight. I think Jason is playing Vistalites. Ok. Later!

Some brief but deeply appreciated words from Matt Woebot on Ui. (He has the vinyl of “The 2-Sided EP”! Dedication!) We all wish you’d convinced the bigshot to go for the “Horn Crown Label” remix. Thanks for trying.

NO SCHOOL TODAY! NO WORK!

12207snowvan.jpg

Cab. Park Avenue. A red light. The driver’s window goes down. The driver reaches out and fingers the snow covering the pachysandra growing on the divider. Green light. The window goes up.

“Where are you from?”

Dude turns around, showing me red hair and beard. He looks like the Celtics mascot with an enlarged smile.

“Egypt. I have been here eight years.”
